Working for Wates Building Services
The Wates Integrated Construction Services Group brings together our engineering and specialist businesses, including SES Engineering Services, Wates Building Services (WBS) and Prism Offsite Manufacturing, and this allows us to broaden our offering to clients, and enables us to become more sustainable, profitable and progressive. WBS hosts an in-house Mechanical and Electrical delivery service, so we can combine greater commerciality with an integrated approach across our supply chain. Working hand-in-hand with Wates Construction, we’re able to deliver greater value.
About the role
When you join the Building Services Management Trainee programme you’ll work alongside the various departments of our Building Services team, learning about the design, installation and maintenance of services and equipment that make a great building. You’ll study the technical and commercial aspects of the management of projects, and the technology used to enhance systems. Supporting the teams as you build experience through a project’s life cycle and understanding how it all fits together, you’ll learn about the essential services and equipment found in buildings, and participate in discussions as you discover how mechanical and electrical services are designed, installed and maintained.
Your additional responsibilities will involve researching current and emerging sustainable technology and how it can be used to produce innovative solutions for development, manufacture and construction processes, observing how the team looks at problems and ways in which the needs of the business, clients and end-users can be met. You’ll learn how financial and safety constraints impact project delivery, monitor essential information and progress trackers, and support minute taking at meetings. We’ll also expect you to help manage the quality of our subcontractor MEP installations, and facilitate client end-user building services training.
To be a success on the programme you’ll enjoy learning new things, have a curious nature, be a superb communicator and you won’t be afraid to ask questions. Organised, reliable and professional, and a problem solver with the ability to think logically, you’ll have the initiative to start and complete tasks. It’s important that you possess good time management skills, are able to prioritise your work to meet agreed deadlines.
To be eligible, you’ll need to have achieved, or working towards GCSE Maths and English - Grade 4/C or above and a minimum of 2 A-Levels or equivalent (for example, Level 3 College qualification, BTEC, T-Level etc) at grades DD or above.
For the role in Bristol, you will work on projects in the Bristol area. For this role you will need a full UK driving licence on commencement of the Programme. Your office base will be in Newbury, which you will work from as required. Expenses will be fully funded by the company, but it’s important for you to be flexible and committed to travelling.
